Communications Unit
The Public Safety Communications Unit is the central location through which all law enforcement, fire and emergency medical service agencies throughout Wyandotte County communicate with each other. Last year the Unit received 398,847 calls making it one of the second busiest Communications Center in the metropolitan area. The Unit has a challenging task of monitoring nine different public safety agencies including the Kansas City Kansas Police Department. The Unit is responsible, utilizing state of the art technology and equipment, for tracking all unit locations, answering all 911 and administrative phone lines, dispatching all calls for service and ensuring accurate recording of information through several information systems, including N.C.I.C. (The National Crime Information Center).
